Sabbatical: Week Two

Week Two … I visited Beth Chayim Chadashim for Shabbat last Friday. It was wonderful seeing Cantor Juval Porat leading alongside layleader and president Jay Jacobs. I had long wanted to experience a service at BCC, and am so glad I was able. This Friday, I will visit Cantor Natalie Young at Temple Beth El in Aliso Viejo, where her Soul Spark Shabbat should have us living within the meditation and loving the heartfelt music.

Last night, I had the pleasure of hearing my former professor Paul Liptz, the current OC JSP one month scholar. He spoke on the topic of Israeli Arabs and their place in society and Israel’s history. Paul is brilliant and one of the most engaging speakers. I highly recommend catching one of his 30 lectures that he is presenting throughout Orange County this month.

I began some very initial work on a new CASA case today, and I look forward to see where that road takes me over the next six months or so. I remain incredibly dedicated to that work.

In the coming days, I will be attending the NAMM convention (Nat’l Assn of Music Merchandisers) where there are thousands of instruments and music-related merchandise on display, in addition to a multitude of performances and workshops. I am focusing on many of the music education workshops that will be offered. And, among the more notable performers are Bobby McFerrin and Sarah McLachlan!

My daily goal remains to make each day the best it can be. I have found this relaxed time of learning, enlightenment, and soul searching to be invaluable thus far.
